If you’re a Hull City fan trying to find the positives of the 2016-17 season, chances are Robert Snodgrass’ name will be cropping up. But if the latest reports are to be believed, the Scottish international might be moving on to pastures new very soon.

The 29-year-old has turned down the offer of a new contract from the Tigers, and both Celtic and Aston Villa have been linked with a move for the set-piece specialist.

But thankfully for Hull, boss Mike Phelan appears to be prepared for life without the midfielder.

The former Manchester United assistant has targeted Swansea City’s Jefferson Montero as the creative man ready to step into Snodgrass’ boots.

The Ecuadorian only extended his contract in September, but has been on the fringes of the first team in Wales this term.

Montero has only started twice for the Welsh outfit this season, and of his 12 appearances in the Premier League this year, only two have seen him player for longer than 45 minutes.

If Phelan can rediscover the player who set-up seven assists in the 2014-15 season, then Montero could be the man to succeed Snodgrass, who is Hull’s top goalscorer.

With one win in 15 Premier League games, Hull could use all the help they can get, and they’ll need to move fast should Snodgrass move on next month.

But before that, the Tigers will be hoping to cause an almighty upset on Boxing Day, when they host Manchester City.

The bookies odds reflect Hull’s difficult situation however, with 17/2 saying they manage to ruin Pep Guardiola’s Christmas with a victory.
