Stoke and Southampton chasing Schalke ace for January swoop

| 05.12.2016

FC Schalke’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting could be plying his trade in the Premier League very soon, with Stoke and Southampton both courting the forward’s signature.

The 27-year-old has been linked with both the Potters and the Saints, who are each seeking some creative January additions.

The bookies make Stoke slight favourites at 5/1 to sign Choupo-Moting in January, with 6/1 saying he moves to the south coast.

With a contract which is set to expire in the summer, Schalke risk losing the Cameroon international for nothing.

But a valuation of just under £7m by transfermarkt.co.uk suggests the Bundesliga outfit could be ready to sell if a suitable offer arrives in January.

Choupo-Moting has been with Schalke for three years, joining from Mainz in 2014.

It was at the Opel Arena where the left-winger really came to prominence, hitting double figures in both the 2011-2012 and 2013-14 campaigns.

And in a move that may repeat itself this summer, the 27-year-old let his contract with Mainz run down, moving to Die Konigsblauen for free.

Nine goals and seven assists were a tidy return for a debut season at Schalke, with another six Bundesliga strikes last season.

But the German outfit will now have to make a decision if a January offer comes in, unless they wish to see history repeat itself.
