Who will finish top from the Championship’s Yorkshire quartet?

Less than 30 miles and just eight points separate the quartet of Yorkshire clubs looking to push on in this season’s Championship. Huddersfield Town are currently highest in fourth place, but it’s 11/10 shots Sheffield Wednesday who are favourites to top the lot.
So, where should your money be going on this Yorkshire foursome?
Sheffield Wednesday – 6th place / 37 points (11/10)
They may have reached last season’s play-off final, but it’s a surprise to see Wednesday priced at just above evens, considering their away day struggles – winning just three of eleven league games on the road so far.
Only Steven Fletcher’s 94th-minute penalty secured victory at home to bottom club Rotherham United on Saturday, and in truth their recent good form has owed a fair bit to good fortune.
Seven clean sheets already this season shows they’ve been difficult to break down, but at 11/10 to finish above some strong competitors, we’d look elsewhere.
Huddersfield Town – 4th place / 39 points (7/4)
Terriers fans were overjoyed earlier this week when boss David Wagner turned down an approach from Bundesliga heavyweights Wolfsburg – and there have been plenty of reasons to be cheerful on the pitch as well.
Three wins on the trot have propelled them back into fourth spot after a brief wobble, and Nahki Wells is finding his shooting boots again with two goals in his last three outings.
However, every one of the club’s 12 wins in the Championship this year has come by a single goal. So while their league position makes the 7/4 to be top Yorkshire club look appealing, they can’t keep scraping out wins forever.
Leeds United – 5th place / 38 points (11/4)
Garry Monk’s men may have endured a difficult start to the season, but since mid-September, they’ve been one of the division’s most accomplished and effective outfits.
Elland Road has become a fortress, with the Whites recording seven wins and a draw in their last nine home league games – including four clean sheets in the past five matches.
With New Zealand star Chris Wood banging the goals in at the other end, we reckon our traders have massively overpriced Leeds to finish top of the Yorkshire foursome at 11/4.
Barnsley – 12th / 31 points (25/1)
It’s fair to say the Tykes have enjoyed upsetting the odds in recent times. Back in December 2015, they were 125/1 to win promotion from League One. Fast forward to May of this year, and they were beating Millwall 3-1 in the play-off final to go up.
So, while closing the gap on this trio is a tough ask, Paul Heckingbottom’s high-scoring side – 38 goals in 22 Championship games – certainly have the quality and determination to rise up the table.
Finishing above the likes of Leeds and Huddersfield might be a bridge too far at this point, but at the sizeable price of 25/1, they could give punters a good run for their money.
