It’s rare you see a defender break into the international set-up at the tender age of 19, but Luxembourg international Enes Mahmutavic is already making his name on the big stage – and his performances have caught the eye of Aston Villa.

The teenager’s current club, Fola Esch, have confirmed he’s been offered a trial with the Villans, and it seems fair to say the centre-back would be unlikely to turn down a move to one of English football’s most historic clubs.

Mahmutavic has been in sparkling form so far this season, with Fola currently on course to secure European football for the fifth year in succession.

On that note, the youngster has already had a taste of continental competition, having impressed in his side’s visit to Aberdeen in this season’s Europa League.

But it’s the youngster’s future, as opposed to his prior achievements, which is likely to impress Villa boss Steve Bruce most.

He’s a gigantic presence at the heart of the defence, but Mahmutavic is not just a tough-tackler with plenty of aerial prowess. The teenager is also confident and composed on the ball, and has chipped in with the odd assist.

Admittedly a move to the English Championship would be a huge step up from life in the Luxembourg National Division, but the defender’s game is continuing to improve month on month, and Bruce would be wise to snap him up before other big clubs spot his potential.

Next up for Aston Villa is a trip to Tottenham in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday, with 10/1 for the Midlands outfit to enjoy a memorable victory.

Triumph at Tottenham and snap up Mahmutavic, and this could end up being a very good January indeed for the Villans.
