At 10/1, can in-form Everton achieve the unthinkable this season?

Under normal circumstances, you’d find it hard to see how a side that picked up just nine points from a possible 36 earlier in the season could go on to break into the Premier League’s Top Six. But if anyone can do exactly that, it’s Ronald Koeman’s Everton.

The Toffees enjoyed their best ever start to a Premier League campaign under the Dutch boss and found themselves in second place in mid-September. That was until a dreadful run saw them drop as low as ninth in the league.

But finally, it seems as though the Merseyside outfit are finding their feet again. And just in case you needed confirmation of that, just check out the highlights of their 4-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

So despite being some seven points off the leading sextet in the table, can Koeman’s men force themselves into contention?

At 10/1, our traders don’t seem to think so. We at Ladbrokes News, on the other hand, think that represents great value.

For starters, they’re playing with absolutely no pressure right now. In fact, with a top four spot come May being just as unlikely as a bottom-half finish,they’re somewhat in limbo.

Compare that to the pressure on the shoulders of those currently in the top six – all of whom will still believe they have a chance of lifting the trophy – and you’re left with 17 remaining games in which Everton can enjoy their football.

With upcoming matches against Crystal Palace, Stoke City, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Sunderland, supporters would be right to expect a hefty return of points.

And let’s not forget – in Romelu Lukaku, Everton boast one of the deadliest strikers in the division.

Already with 12 goals to his name this year, the 23-year-old Belgium international is well on course to record his best ever tally in front of goal.

On average over the past 10 seasons, you’d need 62 points to break into the top six. That’s a figure the Toffees have either matched or bettered on four occasions – and plenty would argue this is the strongest outfit they’ve had in that time.

And with 33 points under their belt thus far, and a generous run of fixtures to come – you’d argue they’re well on course to reaching that figure again.

Granted, it’s all about context, and an argument to the above point might be that such is the quality of the teams above them right now, it’s nigh on impossible to imagine Everton leapfrogging any one of them.

But if City and United consider still consider themselves to have an outside chance of winning the title– despite being 10 and 12 points behind Chelsea respectively – then Everton have every right to believe they can close the gap between themselves and their North-West rivals.
