EFL Cup? Tick. Man United now 14/1 to complete incredible treble

Jose Mourinho has just won his first major piece of silverware with Manchester United. And that EFL Cup success over Southampton has seen our traders respond by making the Red Devils a 14/1 shot for a phenomenal treble in the Portuguese manager’s first year at Old Trafford.

Southampton will feel they were robbed of a perfectly fair goal in the first-half, and fought hard to get themselves back into the tie after going 2-0 down.

But, as has so often been the case this season, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was there to save the day for United.

Still going strong in both the Europa League and the Emirates FA Cup, this treble had been priced up at 28/1 prior to this afternoon’s victory.

But such is the momentum that Mourinho’s men are building now, those odds have of course been slashed as United edge closer towards a famous season.

Granted, it won’t be as historic as the success under Alex Ferguson in the 1998-99 campaign, where the likes of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs celebrated winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League. But you can only beat what’s in front of you – and that’s exactly what Man United are doing right now.

In order for this bet to land though, Mourinho will have to see off his former club Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final, while also defeating Russian outfit FC Rostov over two legs.

That’s while trying to force his way into the top four of the Premier League, which is what supporters really want.

So United’s season is far from over. In fact, it’s only just getting started.

But what do fans think? Can it be done? Just how important will today’s success be for the remainder of the year?
