Napoli emerge as contenders for Man United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic

He’s been linked with a move Stateside, to China and to his hometown club, but now Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be on his way to Napoli.

The Manchester United ace’s contract expires this summer, but the Red Devils do have an option to extend that deal for another 12 months.

But with such an agreement yet to be made, speculation has been increasing regarding the big Swede’s future.

It’s certainly not for a lack of ability, with Ibrahimovic thriving on British shores this season.

The former PSG ace has already hammered in 15 Premier League goals, and has netted 20 in total across all competitions.

A move to MLS has been touted for some time, while the forward himself has dropped numerous hints about a return to his boyhood club, Malmo.

But according to the Daily Mirror, Napoli could be a contender for the 35-year-old’s signature.

The red top claims that Gli Azzurri’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been quoted saying Ibrahimovic would be a ‘dream’ signing for the Naples outfit.

The Serie A side have a history of legendary cult strikers, with Diego Maradona famously turning out for the side in the 1980s.

In Gonzalo Higuain it was believed Napoli had found Maradona’s successor, but their dreams were shattered last summer when the forward left for Juventus.

And that’s the void Zlatan could certainly fill.

For now the striker will be looking to lead Man United into the latter stages of the Europa League.

The Red Devils are 2/7 favourites to defeat Saint-Etienne in their last-32 first-leg clash tonight, with 5/2 saying Zlatan nets the opener.
