Olivia Colman early favourite to be the next Doctor Who

The race is on to be named the next Doctor Who following the announcement that Peter Capaldi will be stepping down from the role in late 2017.  

Olivia Colman currently heads the betting at 5/1. And having been backed by fellow Broadchurch star, and former Doctor David Tennant, punters have been flocking to back the actress.

However, she’s not the only contender you’ve been latching on to.

Fleabag actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge has seen her odds slashed from 33/1 to 20/1 in the last few days following a flurry of bets with 10/1 chance Ben Wishaw also well supported.

According to the latest odds, Reece Shearsmith is Colman’s nearest challenger with the 47-year-old having previously played a role in Who.

He’s been priced up at 8/1 with The Wire actor and potential James Bond Idris Elba available at 16s.

At bigger odds, Tom Hardy and Sue Perkins are both 50/1 apiece.
