Sevilla v Leicester City: Don’t be surprised if Foxes cause another upset

They won the Premier League last year yet now find themselves in a relegation scrap. And since the turn of the year, they’ve won just two games in all competitions. Therefore, we all know what’s going to happen this week when Leicester City head to Sevilla for their Champions League last-16, first leg. 

That’s right, they’re going to nick a result.

Why? Because that’s exactly how things work in the topsy-turvy world of the Foxes.

Considered 8/1 outsiders to leave the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium with a victory, there’ll be plenty of punters getting on those odds.

But we’re more interested in the 21/10 on offer for Leicester to win or draw.

Aside from their 5-0 hammering by FC Porto in their final Group G game, the Foxes were a hard nut to crack in their previous five European outings, conceding just a single goal in that quintet of games.

And we’re not reading too much into that drubbing in Porto. Claudio Ranieri’s men had already guaranteed themselves top-spot in their group and fielded a much weaker squad than usual with a crucial match against Manchester City coming just three days later in the Premier League.

Sevilla, who are 4/11 favourites here, are in fine form in La Liga. They’re third in the league right now, just two points off Barcelona and they’ve picked up seven points from a possible nine this month without conceding a goal.

But Jorge Sampaoli’s men haven’t been that convincing in Europe this year. They scored just seven goals in Group H and relied on a stalemate against Lyon on the final match day to see them through as runners-up to Juventus.

They drew two of their group games 0-0 – a result Leicester would be delighted with this week. And 12/1 says neither side manages to find the net in Spain.

Meanwhile, it’s 11/10 for both sides to get on the scoresheet, although we’re not expecting that to come in. It’s only happened three times in their last 10 games combined.

And while his performances in the Premier League have been below average to say the least, Riyad Mahrez has been unplayable at times in this Champions League journey Leicester are currently on.

Already with four goals and one assist to his name, we make it 14/1 for the 2015-16 PFA Player of the Year to open the scoring, while 9/2 says he nets at any time.

Yes, recent form tells us we’re crazy. But this is Leicester City we’re talking about, and anything can happen when Ranieri’s men are in action.
