Arsenal edging Chelsea in race for Wolves’ wing wizard

The only thing standing between Wolverhampton Wanderers and certain relegation this season is Helder Costa. But it looks unlikely he’ll stay at Molineux for long – and right now it’s Arsenal who are 2/1 favourites for the Portuguese winger’s signature.

Having netted 10 goals and chalked up nine assists for the Black Country strugglers this term, the 23-year-old is a man in huge demand, and the second-tier side are believed to want at least £20m if they’re to let him go.

However, that’s unlikely to deter the Gunners. And with Alex Iwobi having had a disappointing campaign and fellow forward Lucas Perez struggling to make his mark, Costa could be exactly the tonic that Wenger – or his successor – needs.

Chelsea are next up at 3/1, with Antonio Conte looking to further revamp the Stamford Bridge squad, while a return to former club Monaco is priced up at 9/2.

Manchester pair United (6/1) and City (8/1) are also outsiders to pip the London favourites, and those odds could shrink if either of them pip the Gunners to a top-four spot.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “He may be set to Costa lot for any potential buyer, but Arsenal look favourites to stump up the cash and secure the Portuguese ace’s signature.”
