The world’s richest race night is upon us with the $10m Dubai World Cup the centrepiece of an incredible card at Meydan this Saturday.
However, for the purposes of this particular article we’re looking away from the big one and instead focussing on the punts to be on in the preamble.
There’s plenty to get stuck into with seven contests preceding the feature race itself.
North America can get us on the board early in the Godolphin Mile with the talented five-year-old landing four successive course and distance wins since transferring to Satish Seemar’s yard.
The latest was a seven-length success in a Group 3 in mid-February. Familiar foe Heavy Metal and US raider Sharp Azteca are interesting but our selection’s form over track and trip is hard to fault.
Beautiful Romance is next on the list with Godolphin’s leading Dubai Gold Cup hopeful more than capable of securing a third renewal success for the boys in blue.
He had last year’s winner Vazirabad in behind last time out and we’re anticipating more of the same on Saturday.
Ertijaal is arguably the banker of our four selections with the Hamdam Al Maktoum-owned charge a short price to reassert his superiority.
The switch to Meydan’s five furlong trip has worked wonders for the six-year-old with four wins from five starts recorded since January 2016.
The only defeat in that sequence came in last year’s Al Quoz Sprint but he can put that right in this renewal.
Rounding off our Lucky 15 is the biggest outsider of our quartet in Deauville.
A long lay-off might seem like a concern but AP O’Brien’s entrant finished a respectable runner-up in last year’s Dante Stakes on his seasonal reappearance so that shouldn’t be an issue here.
Wins in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes and a third in the Arlington Million are not to be sniffed at and we’re prepared to take a chance on him in the Dubai Turf.
