Ladbrokes Challenge Cup 4th Round Wrap: Doncaster continue to shine

Doncaster produced the display of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Fourth Round, as they left League 1 rivals Gloucestershire All Golds reeling with a 48-22 victory in South Yorkshire.

Kieran Cross was the star man for the Dons, with the local lad chalking up five tries as the visitors breezed into an early lead, which they never surrendered.

However, with the scores at 18-16 to the visitors at half-time, those of a Doncaster persuasion may have had a few nerves. But their second-half display proved there was no need for those, as they racked up 30 points and gave up just a solitary try in the process.

Golden Gill helps Oldham to comfortable win

Castleford Tigers loanee Kieran Gill gave Oldham Roughyeds fans a moment to savour in their 40-12 victory over community club Haydock, with the try of the round – and arguably, the competition – so far.

The young centre picked up the ball in his own half, before going on a mazy run – complete with a superb dummy – to chalk up a try. A difficult skill in any game, but having done it in wet and windy conditions, the 21-year-old deserves extra credit.

But the visitors – the lowest ranked side ever to reach this stage of the competition – are also worthy of praise, recording two tries and a respectable scoreline against Championship opposition.

Impressive Barrow nil visitors Keighley

One side has been nilled in every round of the 2017 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup, and this time that unfortunate fate befell Keighley Cougars – who came up against a rock-solid Barrow Raiders side at Craven Park.

The Raiders eventually secured a 20-0 win over their League 1 opponents, with stand-off Lewis Charnock grabbing a pair of tries to see the Cumbrian outfit reach the Fifth Round without breaking a sweat.

KR deliver a K.O. to Sheffield Eagles

Hull Kingston Rovers continued their impressive revival this term with a 48-10 thumping of the Eagles, to make it seven wins from seven games in all competitions since the season began.

The hosts didn’t quite hit the high notes in the first period, going in 18-10 ahead at the break – but the second period saw Tim Sheens’ side really find their groove, with seven different players eventually scoring tries, and Jamie Ellis kicking successfully after every single one. Beware the Robins…
