Through Irish Eyes: Bacardys can get Ruby and Willie on the board

Barcardys - Neptune Novices' Hurdle odds

Ireland had four winners on the opening day of the 2017 Cheltenham Festival, three thanks to Gordon Elliott, and we have a number of live chances again today.

Perhaps Ruby can get his first winner of the Festival on Bacardys in the first?

Neon Wolf is one of our best backed horses of the whole meeting but I just think that Willie Mullins’ charge is going to get even better today and improve on his excellent run at Leopardstown.

He was a suprise winner that day, and the yard said that they thought he wasn’t fully fit. To win a Grade 1 and not be fully tuned up is no mean feat so I’ll side with him in the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle.

The Irish are coming in the RSA

The tricolour could be flying high again in the RSA Chase as a number of Ireland’s representatives have great chances.

Mouse Morris’ Alpha Des Obeaux was second to the mighty Thistlecrack in the Stayers’ Hurdle and should go well again today,

On the other hand, Bellshill isn’t too popular after his recent falls with our best chance possibly Acapella Bourgeois.

Sandra Hughes said he’s improved from his run away victory at Navan, a race in which the other jockeys were reportedly stunned by how quick he could go.

His massive stride will help him power up the hill and he’s one of my best bets of the day.

Tombstone for the Coral Cup, back Cause of Causes in the Cross Country

Tombstone has been super popular for the Coral Cup, a possible contender for the Champion Hurdle at one point, and his beating of Jezki was highly impressive.

JJ Codd is a cracking rider and I think he’ll have a winner aboard Cause Of Causes in the Glenfarclass Chase at 16:10.

And finally, I think the Champion Bumper is really interesting.

Kate Harrington gets to keep the ride on Someday, a horse she rides every day and has won on at the track.

I saw him stretch his legs this morning and he looks great. While it’s tempting to look at Ruby’s ride dual winner Next Destination, I’ll stick with Someday and hopefully it will be another winner on the board for the ladies after Lisa O’Neill’s success yesterday.

Happy Punting, enjoy Douvan, and I’ll be back again with the Irish angle tomorrow.
