3 ways you should back Man United to end their Chelsea hoodoo

Published:

It’s not often Man United go into a home game at odds-against for victory. But then again, it’s rare that any side has a record against the Red Devils quite like Chelsea’s. Of the last 12 meetings between the pair, the Blues have won seven and drawn five.

However, we fancy United to end that barren streak against Antonio Conte’s men, and here’s how we recommend backing the hosts at Old Trafford…

Ibrahimovic to score and Man United to win @ 9/4

The Swede tormented Chelsea’s defence in last season’s Champions League clashes, netting in both legs as Paris Saint-Germain knocked the Blues out of the competition. And while it hasn’t quite come good for him against the capital club since joining United, we back that to change on Sunday.

Nine goals in as many games has helped United push on in Europe and maintain their impressive unbeaten league streak (21 games and counting). And after Chelsea were undone by Crystal Palace’s physical hitman Christian Benteke quiet earlier this month, we reckon United’s powerful forward will have the same effect.

Man United to win 2-1 @ 9/1

The Blues’ attitude to defeat this season seems to be “if you’re going to lose, lose 2-1”. Three of their five losses have come by that scoreline, including the Seagulls’ triumph at Stamford Bridge. And United have enjoyed victory by that score on a number of occasions already this term.

This is always a tight clash, too. The West London club may generally have come out on top during recent times, but only once in the last 14 meetings has there been more than one goal separating these two. We reckon it’s going to be a close-run thing once again, but that Jose Mourinho’s side will edge it.

2nd Half – Result: Man United @ 15/8

They may not quite have the never-say-die attitude of the Sir Alex Ferguson years, but Man United have rediscovered something of a penchant for scoring late goals. Six of their last eight have come after the break, while three of those have been registered in the 89th minute or later.

In the match betting, the Red Devils are 6/4 for victory, with 19/10 for the draw and 2/1 on offer for a Chelsea win.
