Brechin’s Andy Jackson is Ladbrokes League One’s Player of the Month

Andy Jackson is delighted to see his goals earn him the Ladbrokes League One Player of the Month award for March – and now he hopes they secure play-off promotion for Brechin.

The Glebe Park striker was in red hot form over the last month, scoring five goals in five games to continue to a six-match goal run.

He’s been scoring big goals too, including winners against East Fife and Peterhead, helping Brechin stay in the play-off places.

Despite Jackson’s form, Darren Dods’ men still aren’t guaranteed a play-off run as they sit just two points above East Fife and Queen’s Park and three in front of Albion Rovers with four games remaining.

But Jackson hopes more of his goals can help continue their push for promotion to the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes News, he said: “It’s good to get the recognition for scoring some goals and we’ve done well lately. The manager let me know and I was delighted, but I just hope we can make the play-offs now.

“My aim is always double figures to start with. Once I get to 10, I aim for 15 and then take it from there.

“Obviously, I missed 10 or 11 games which dented that a little bit, but since I’ve came back I’ve done well.

“If I hadn’t been injured I could have hit 20 goals, which would have been amazing, but there are still four games left and I’ll hopefully get close to it.

“There are four games to go and we’ve got two at home. It’s in our own hands; we’re in the play-off spots just now. Alloa on Saturday is a big game, and I’d say it’ll take three wins from four to make sure we make it into the play-offs.”

Jackson has scored goals on a regular basis over the last five years at Brechin and obviously harbours hope of earning a return to the Ladbrokes Premiership again after a few seasons there with St Johnstone at the start of his career.

But he’s also very happy at Glebe Park and could get closer to that level with them.

Jackson added: “I’m 29 now and I’m just enjoying things at Brechin. It would depend what type of offer came in if I was going back to full-time football.

“It would probably need to be in the Premiership, but whether or not a team is willing to take a chance is another story.

“Having said that, I’m happy at Brechin. They’ve been good to me and I’m happy here just now, but you never know what could happen.

“Obviously, if somebody was to come in, we’d need to have a talk. At 29, I’m just concentrating on doing well for Brechin, and if that gets me recognition elsewhere then great.”

Jackson was also full of praise for manager Dods after his turnaround of the club.

He said: “When the gaffer came in here last year, he never had long to get players in – that affected us big time.

“But once we got a settled team, for the last 15 games or so, we obviously escaped relegation so that was unbelievable,” the forward added.

Jackson concluded: “This season, we’ve done really well and hopefully we can make the play-offs and continue the gaffer’s hard work from there.”

Brechin face a tough trip to Alloa this weekend and are 10/3 with league sponsors Ladbrokes to get the win to keep their play-off push going.
