Chelsea v Southampton: Visitors can take advantage of tired Blues

Published:

It’s not often we’ve tipped a side to get the better of Chelsea this season – certainly not at Stamford Bridge. But that’s exactly what we’re doing this week as Southampton travel to West London looking to secure a Top 10 spot.

OK, we’re not going to confidently say the Saints will go and take all three points from the Blues for the second time in as many seasons away from home, but the value on the whole is certainly in backing Claude Puel’s men.

They’re 13/2 to secure their third win in four Premier League outings, although we’d be leaning towards the 15/8 on Southampton winning or drawing in the Double Chance market.

Antonio Conte fielded a questionable side against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend in Chelsea’s Emirates FA Cup semi-final clash, opting to start Eden Hazard and Diego Costa on the bench.

Granted, it paid off in the end as the Blues ran out 4-2 victors, but they have just three days to get over that success and prepare for Tuesday night’s tie.

Southampton, meanwhile, have had a week off and will be fully fit and raring to go at the Bridge.

Plus, they’ll be looking to exact revenge for the 2-0 defeat they suffered earlier on this campaign in the reverse fixture.

It’s 11/2 for a repeat of that scoreline, but we can’t see that happening.

Southampton tasted victory at the Bridge for the first time in 13 years last season, with Steven Davis, Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle netting in a 3-1 win.

The latter two are no longer with the Saints, but Pelle’s replacement up-front, Manolo Gabbiadini, will be confident of adding to his tally for the season.

He’s scored six goals in as many outings in all competitions for the South Coast outfit, and 3/1 says he scores at any time on Tuesday night.

Just four points separate Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the Premier League table, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his former club can play a part in closing that gap this week.
