Eurozone: It’s game on for Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Monaco

Published:

As Tottenham continue to keep Chelsea just about honest in the Premier League race, across Europe we have a host of similarly close contests.

It really is the business end of the season now, and so at Ladbrokes News HQ we thought it high-time to whizz across the continent and let you know what’s going on.

So let’s crack on, starting in Spain…

Spain – La Liga

Real Madrid @ 8/15, Barcelona @ 13/10

Two months ago Real Madrid were a point ahead of Barcelona with two games in hand, and the La Liga battle looked and done and dusted.

And even just a week ago Cristiano Ronaldo and co looked destined for the title at 1/6.

But it’s amazing what a last-minute Lionel Messi El Clasico winner can do for a title race.

And that last-gasp stunner at the Bernabeu has kept La Liga’s title duel alive.

Barcelona now top the table for the first time in two months – albeit on goal difference – and hammered Osasuna 7-1 last time out.

However, Zinedine’s Zidane men have a game in hand, and should have enough about them to ensure they win the league no matter what their Catalan rivals do.

Real’s remaining fixtures see them play four sides in the bottom 11, with a home tie versus Sevilla the only potential stumbling block.

But this isn’t the pressure-free cruise to glory many were expecting just a week or so ago, and Real cannot afford to slip up again.

France – Ligue 1

Monaco @ 1/3, PSG @ 15/8, Nice @ 100/1

After Paris Saint-Germain won the league by 31 points last year, this season’s Ligue 1 race has been simply superb.

Both Nice and Monaco have stepped up to the plate, with the former leading the running before Christmas.

It’s been all about Monaco since then however, who have won 13 and drawn two of their last 15 games to rule the roost.

Leonardo Jardim’s men sit top, level with PSG but with a better goal difference while they also have a game in hand on the Capital giants.

Les Parisiens must also win away at Nice this weekend to maintain any hope of defending their title.

Fail to do that, and Monaco will be staring at a first Ligue 1 title in 17 years.
