ITV Racing Tips: Grace can lay down a marker in the Nell Gwyn

All eyes are on HQ this week with the Craven meeting taking centre stage at Newmarket. Classic clues will be unveiled as we take a giant leap towards this year’s 2000 and 1000 Guineas renewals.
However, it’s not all done and dusted over the Jumps quite yet, with ITV Racing set to also show two races from Cheltenham across Wednesday 19 April and Thursday 20 April.
But what can we expect from this assortment of midweek treats?
The Nell Gwyn Stakes is the Wednesday highlight and it’s one of five contests covered below…
Trainer William Haggas has been bullish about new acquisition Sea Of Grace and we’re backing the former John Oxx filly to showcase her Classic credentials.
Her two-year-old form is solid enough, with a Group 3 win last time out over subsequent pattern race winner Eziyra highlighting this exciting chesnut’s claims.
That victory came over a mile although the same rival was also beaten over 7½ furlongs before that and the Nell Gwyn’s 7f trip holds no fears for us.
This is a competitive handicap and not without its dangers but we’re siding with early market leader Normandy Barriere following a decent campaign last year.
The Nigel Tinkler-trained charge won three and placed in another four of his 10 races in 2016 and we’re expecting another big effort at a track that should suit.
Quite simply, Thomas Crapper loves Cheltenham and the track returns the feeling with interest.
This will be the 10-year-old’s 15th appearance at Prestbury Park and we’ll be putting on some each-way money in the hope that he’ll repay our faith.
Robin Dickin’s popular runner is certainly enjoying an Indian summer, with his Greatwood Gold Cup win at Newbury followed by a fourth-placed finish at this year’s Festival.
He had the re-opposing Starchitect, Village Vic, Voix D’Eau, Art Mauresque and Henryville in behind in March and we fancy a repeat showing.
