Man United v Anderlecht: Hosts on course to edge low-scoring game

Published:

Manchester United will head into the second leg of their Europa League Quarter-Final clash with Anderlecht in confident mood following Sunday’s stellar 2-0 win over Chelsea. And the hosts look set to chalk up another win and clean sheet combo against Paars-wit.

United have been extremely robust at home this term, conceding just 13 goals in 27 games at Old Trafford, with three clean sheets in their last four outings in M16.

Add to that the fact Anderlecht have scored just twice in their last three games, and it looks like lumping on the 10/11 for Man United to win to nil is a good shout.

Backing a modest goal total also looks the way forward in this clash. Only one of the Red Devils’ last five games has produced more than two goals – a stat which reads the same for Rene Weiler’s men.

That means the 5/4 for Under 2.5 Goals looks generously priced, while the 1/2 for Under 3.5 looks like something of a banker.

So, who are we tipping up to find the net for Jose Mourinho’s side?

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, of course! The Armenian has registered in four of United’s last five UEL games – and on every occasion, he’s netted the opener.

There’s 6/4 on offer for the midfield maestro to score and United to win, but it’s the 4/1 for him to be First Goalscorer which has really caught our eye.

Meanwhile, with five of the Red Devils’ last six wins having seen them already lead at the interval, the Half-Time/Full-Time: Man United/Man United should come good at odds of 8/11.

In the match betting, the hosts are 1/4 to win in 90 minutes, with 19/4 for honours even and 12/1 for Anderlecht to pull off a shock victory.
