ITV Racing Tips: Follow the money for Lockinge fancy Ribchester

Published:
Ribchester - Lockinge Stakes

The Flat season rolls on this Saturday with Newbury and Newmarket its next top destinations. The Group 1 Lockinge Stakes is the highlight from Berkshire although there’s plenty more high class action to enjoy too.

In the feature race we’ll be treated to a fascinating rematch between the reopposing Ribchester and Galileo Gold.

Meanwhile, the opening Al Rayyan Stakes at Newbury also promises to be a fascinating affair while the three-year-old speedsters will be out in force for the Sprint Trophy at HQ.

Here’s our look ahead to the seven contests set to feature on a packed ITV Racing card.

Enjoy…

NAP – Ribchester – 15:30 Newbury

This looks like being the race of the season so far with plenty of stars and a variety of plotlines featuring.

There’s been a flood of money for Godolphin’s high-class Ribchester and we’re backing the Richard Fahey-trained runner to once again get the better of rival Galileo Gold.

Ribchester finished in front of Hugo Palmer’s charge when landing a Group 1 in France and a runner-up place in the QEII Stakes at Royal Ascot towards the end of last term.

And while it wouldn’t be a shock to see last year’s Guineas winner come back into form we reckon William Buick’s ride can build on his previous successes and further earmark his progression.

NB – Larchmont Lad – 14:40 Newmarket

Course and distance winner Larchmont Lad looks a solid pick now stepped down in both trip and class.

The mile proved too much for Richard Hannon’s entrant but this 7f looks ideal, especially when you factor in the opposition he beat the last time this three-year-old tackled track and trip.

Recent Derby Trial winner Best Solution was seen off last September while the smart Whitecliffsofdover was also accounted for at HQ.

Desert Frost and Beat The Bank are two unexposed threats but we think our pick can make his class and experience tell.

Lively Longshot – Eqitraan – 15:15 Newmarket

This hot Sprint Trophy handicap features a number of prominent players but the one who carries most appeal is arguably Eqitraan.

Champion jockey Jim Crowley is in the saddle once again, bidding to go one better than a course and distance second on 2000 Guineas day.

This looks a similar type of contest, and although Ekhtiyaar and Holmeswood could improve, our selection has the scope to get the better of them and the rest.
