ITV Racing Tips: Lee can get Growl into the Duke of York frame

Growl - Duke of York odds

Flat racing fans are certainly spoilt for choice at this time of year. Last week’s Chester May meeting neatly led in to a bumper Saturday of racing while this week’s Dante Festival from York is closely followed by the Lockinge Stakes from Newbury.

It’s a fantastic mix, and one we’re revelling in ahead of the action on the Knavesmire.

The ITV Racing cameras will show four live races this Wednesday, with the Duke of York Stakes and Musidora Stakes the two highlights.

Can Magical Memory put some disappointing runs behind him to strike again or has he met his match in Ayr Gold Cup winner, Brando?

Meanwhile, the very promising filly Shutter Speed looks very tough to beat.

Here’s our look ahead to a cracking card…

NAP – Al Neksh – 14:20 York

Our man Frankie Dettori has been in flying form of late and is currently operating at a 25% strike rate from the past fortnight.

The Ladbrokes ambassador will be back onboard the William Haggas-trained Al Neksh in this tricky handicap and we fancy him to guide his mount into the winner’s enclosure.

This son of Zoffany’s first season featured three wins in six starts and we reckon there could be more to come if replicating the best of that form.

Lovell doesn’t mind a bit of cut in the ground so he’s a danger while course and distance victor Master Carpenter is interesting if taken on his best pieces of work.

However, we’re sticking with Frankie at a track he loves riding.

NB – Wentworth Falls – 14:55 York

EDIT – Our original selection here was Lexington Abbey but with that runner pulled from the race we’ve gone back in to pick out another horse.

Wentworth Falls has won on three of his five outings since joining Geoffrey Harker’s yard, including two notable recent successes.

A number of re-opposing rivals were seen off at Doncaster in early April before this five-year-old got the better of the returning Ninjago last time out.

On this season’s form he has to be considered a serious player here and we’re confident our back-up can do the business.

Lively Longshot – Growl – 15:30 York

This year’s Duke of York renewal is deep enough to pick out quite a few selections. But at the current prices we’re going to give the consistent Growl our backing.

A Listed winner at Doncaster back in October, 50/1 runner-up in the Champions Sprint, and Ayr Gold second behind Brando before that, the Richard Fahey-trained charge has plenty to like for value seekers.

There aren’t too many question marks over the ground with this selection either and we’re hoping for another big run.
