ITV Racing Tips: Masterly Sir Michael to do it again with Khairaat

Sir Michael Stoute Chester odds

Hot on the heels of a sparkling opening day on the Roodee, the Chester May meeting offers up more tantalising treats this Thursday.

With regards to yesterday’s tipping, we got off to a flyer with Yogi’s Girl just holding on to take the first contest.

However, Alluringly could only manage second behind Enable in the Cheshire Oaks while our each-way tip Taexali scooped us some place money (we hope you got on at a far bigger price than the SP) and Blakeney Point failed to muster a challenge in the Chester Cup.

So, a mixed bag overall but our spirits haven’t been dampened.

The Chester Vase is the feature on the second day with Aidan O’Brien mounting a four-strong challenge in a race he’s won seven times in the last 10 years.

Here’s our look at the latest renewal and the rest of the ITV Racing action…

NAP – Khairaat – 13:50 Chester

Like a great deal of you, we’re more than happy to champion Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-olds and in Khairaat the venerable saddler looks to have another one capable of more progression.

The selection has won two of his three races with the step-up in trip at Doncaster last time out no problem at all.

Granted, the likes of Brorocco have enjoyed more recent outings (won the City and Suburban Handicap at Epsom) but we think our pick can go well fresh and beat his principal danger to the punch.

NB – Via Egnatia – 15:00 Chester

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori teamed-up to great effect in yesterday’s Cheshire Oaks and they can enjoy more success here.

Handed a plum draw, Via Egnatia can put his disappointing run at Newmarket last time out behind him and attack from the front much like he did when landing his maiden by seven lengths at HQ.

This is by no means an easy contest to call with Mutawatheb also likely to be keen from the off and Areen Heart open to further improvement.

But we’re happy enough to put our faith in the colours of Prince Khalid Abdullah.

Lively Longshot – The Anvil – 15:35 Chester

As previously mentioned, Ballydoyle have dominated this race in recent years and Aidan’s stable have four entered in the latest renewal of the Chester Vase.

However, while Ryan Moore has opted for Venice Beach, we’re going to side with The Anvil.

Last year’s Royal Lodge runner-up was subsequently well beaten in the Racing Post Trophy but a convincing win in a lower grade contest at Dundalk last time out should act as good preparation, as well as being a confidence booster.

His first-string stablemate will be tough to beat, while it’d be unwise to rule out the Godolphin challenger Tamleek and Frankel foal Cunco.

But our longshot is not without his own claims with that Royal Lodge form and the draw both strong positives.

ITV Racing Tips:

13:50 Chester – Khairaat

14:25 Chester – Folkswood

15:00 Chester – Via Egnatia

15:35 Chester – The Anvil EW
