Leicester City fans look away now – Riyad Mahrez has asked to leave
It’s the news Leicester City supporters had been dreading – Riyad Mahrez has asked for a transfer.
The Algerian came to prominence during the Foxes’ sensational Premier League-winning campaign in 2015-16, netting 17 goals in addition to 10 assists.
And the East Midlands outfit breathed a huge sigh of relief when they managed to hang on to the winger last summer.
But though Mahrez failed to hit those heights last season, he has now asked to move on elsewhere.
Valued at £25m by transfermarkt.co.uk, the 26-year-old still has three years left to run on his Leicester deal, which was last updated in August.
It all means Leicester are set to land a huge windfall on a player they bagged for just £425k from Le Havre in January 2014.
The Foxes could well command £35m for their star player, with a £40m fee not out of the question.
Our traders make Monaco 5/4 favourites, where Mahrez would fit seamlessly into the French outfit’s free-flowing mindset.
Chelsea lead the Premier League clubs at 7/2, and the Blues will need to bring in new faces as they bid to defend their title while also tackling Champions League football.
Arsenal fans will be urging Arsene Wenger to make a move, especially with the Frenchman set to announce he’s staying on at the club for another two years.
The Gunners are 4/1 to land Mahrez, having seen his Leicester team-mate Jamie Vardy turn down a move to North London last summer.
