Man City shock joint-favourites to sign Man United outcast

Published:

Luke Shaw could soon become public enemy number one at Old Trafford, if the latest odds are anything to go by.

The England ace is now just 3/1 to leave Manchester United for local rivals Manchester City, having failed to fit into Jose Mourinho’s plans this season.

Shaw has started just nine Premier League games for the Red Devils this season, and it’s thought he’ll lead a mass exodus this summer as the United boss looks to strengthen his side for a title push next year.

Pep Guardiola’s City side are joined at the head of the market by Tottenham Hotspur, but a lot would need to happen for Shaw to sign for the North London outfit.

For starters, Danny Rose would have to leave to guarantee Shaw game-time. Rose has been linked with a move to City in recent months himself. Were that deal to go ahead, then Spurs would need to replace the left-back, and Shaw would likely slot straight in.

But the latest odds are suggesting Guardiola will cut out the middle man by going straight for the United outcast.

Newcastle United are a surprise 4/1 shot to land the Southampton youth product as Rafa Benitez looks to add top-flight experience to his squad in an attempt to establish the Magpies as a Premier League outfit once again.

And a return to the Saints hasn’t been ruled out by our traders, with the South Coast club 5/1 to re-sign the 21-year-old.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Jose has called Shaw out time and time again this season. But the defender could have the last laugh by teaming up with United’s bitter rivals in what would undoubtedly be the most controversial move of the summer.”
