Man United continue to lead race for Tottenham ace Danny Rose

| 30.05.2017

Having emerged as a serious Premier League force in recent years, it would seem odd for Tottenham to sell one of their key men.

But that looks likely to happen with Danny Rose.

It’s believed the left-back from Doncaster is keen for a return north, and both Manchester City and Manchester United have been touted as options.

A secondary factor is Tottenham’s tight wage structure. Rose is rumoured to be on £30,000-£55,000-per-week at White Hart Lane, far below many of his contemporaries in the modern game.

It’s not hard to envisage that either City or United could, and would, treble or even quadruple Rose’s income.

The 26-year-old is 2/1 to be a Red Devil next season, with Jose Mourinho seemingly destined to offload Luke Shaw by any means necessary this summer.

But City are in contention too at 3/1, and there’s little doubting Pep Guardiola needs full-backs, after allowing Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta to leave the club last week.

The two northern powerhouse are the only realistic contenders, according to our traders.

Liverpool and Chelsea are next up, but are comparatively out of the running at 12/1.

A move to Tottenham’s North London neighbours Arsenal is considered highly unlikely at 33/1.

But despite a transfer budget of £70m-100m, Newcastle United will have to go elsewhere for a top-level left-back, with 66/1 on offer for Rose to join the Magpies.

Rose has been with Spurs for 10 years, since joining from Leeds United for £1m.

He has since gone on to make over 140 appearances, and has been named twice on the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year.
