Lincoln City enjoyed an unforgettable campaign in 2016-17, securing promotion back to the EFL after a six-year absence and reaching the FA Cup Quarter-Finals. One man at the heart of that success was Alan Power, who left the Imps to join Kilmarnock earlier this week.
The combative midfielder played in every minute of Lincoln’s incredible cup run, and put in a series of stellar displays to negate star men for the likes of Burnley, Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as chalking up two vital goals along the way.
However, he’s also effective off the bench, with Imps boss Danny Cowley regularly using the 27-year-old as a commanding substitute in league games where the side needed to hold onto a slender lead.
And having built up a reputation for his firm tackling in the National League, Killie fans won’t see him shirk any tackles – though he’s thankfully curbed his earlier red-card habit, with just one dismissal since November 2015.
That leadership and tenacity saw him given the captaincy at Sincil Bank, with the Dublin native wearing the armband for three years during his time in Lincolnshire.
With this young Killie side arguably lacking something in experience and leadership, he also fills a vital gap on that front. If the club are to push on and crack the top six next season, Power could well be the key difference-maker.
