Patriotic punters abandon Andy Murray ahead of Wimbledon defence

It seems that Sir Andy Murray just can’t catch a break right now. The beleaguered world number one is out of form, nursing injuries and completely friendless in this year’s Wimbledon betting.
Patriotic punters have deserted Muzza with the price on the 30-year-old retaining his SW19 crown drifting from 11/4 out to 9/2 in the past week.
Our odds-compilers have also revealed that Murray will head into this year’s grass court Grand Slam with less backing than he’s received in the last 10 years.
He’s also the least popular selection amongst the traditional Big Four, as the 2/1 Roger Federer and 4/1 shot Rafa Nadal continue to be well supported.
We’re even anticipating more interest in Murray facing a first round exit than they are on the Brit being backed to win when the draw is announced tomorrow.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s going from bad to worse for Sir Andy and as far as punters are concerned the world number one doesn’t stand a chance of claiming a third SW19 trophy.”
Murray has played only one match on grass so far this year and pulled out of his final warm-up contest at the Hurlingham Club with a sore hip.
