With the transfer window in full swing, it’s time for the first of what will be a recurring Ladbrokes News feature – the SPFL Signing of the Week. And the inaugural prize goes to Rangers’ latest new arrival, Carlos Pena.

The 27-year-old has arrived from Mexican giants C.D. Guadalajara, with a hugely impressive goalscoring record, plenty of big-game experience and an already-formed partnership with fellow Ibrox newboy Eduardo Herrera.

Pena boasts a career goal tally of 51 goals in 215 outings, as well as chalking up 14 assists.

Having initially begun his career as a holding midfielder, the Ciudad Victoria native has shone since being converted to a central midfield role, with 25 of his goals coming since the beginning of 2015.

He’s also not just featured – but impressed – on some of the game’s biggest stages.

As well as playing for Mexico at the 2014 World Cup, he was a key part of El Tricolor’s run to the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup Semi-Final and netted several crucial strikes to help former club Leon to reach the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores in 2014.

As for the current Gers boss, he has first-hand experience of just how good Pena is. The midfielder netted a stunning winner when Leon beat Caixinha’s former club Santos Laguna in 2015.

And there’s a ready-made partnership at Ibrox for next season, between Pena and Herrera.

The pair have featured together for the national side, including in an impressive 1-0 victory over Paraguay in 2015. So there’s every chance Pena will be feeding the lively forward plenty more chances from the get-go next season.

So, a great bit of business from the Gers, who have been extremely busy in the early part of this window, bringing in seven signings already.
