Brighton looking to break transfer record for Leicester winger

They’ve already smashed their club record transfer fee to bring goalkeeper Mathew Ryan in from Valencia, but now Brighton & Hove Albion could be set to break it again in their pursuit of Leicester City winger Tom Lawrence.

The 23-year-old undoubtedly possesses plenty of talent, but with Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray firmly locking down their spots on the respective flanks, first-team opportunities have been thin on the ground.

A move seems to make sense for all parties, and it’s 6/4 that Brighton snap up the Wales international, with the Foxes’ asking price believed to be £8m.

With a dearth of game-time in the East Midlands, the Wrexham native has headed out on loan in each of the last two seasons. That included a profitable stint at Ipswich Town last term, as the former Manchester United youngster netted 11 goals and assisted the same number for the Championship club.

Lawrence’s debut for the Tractor Boys came against Derby County, and he could be starting next season at Pride Park, because the Rams are also keen to sign him.

Having failed to win promotion last term, they’re at a definite disadvantage in this transfer tussle, but a move to Gary Rowett’s side remains plausible at odds of 6/1.

As for Brighton, adding another attacking talent – and one with over 100 games in English football under his belt – could be crucial as they look to make good on the 8/13 to stay up.
