Chelsea new favourites for Morata as Man United chase Lukaku

Published:

This transfer window is really hotting up, and the latest news has Manchester United closing in on a £75m deal for Romelu Lukaku.

And it’s now believed the Red Devils are no longer interested in Alvaro Morata, leaving Chelsea to take advantage.

United had been as short as 1/10 to sign the Real Madrid striker, but are now second in the betting at 7/4.

That’s because the Blues, with many expecting Antonio Conte to be livid at missing out on Lukaku, are now at the head of the Morata market.

Having been 7/1 outsiders, the reigning Premier League champions now lead the way as 6/4 favourites.

But any striker signings for Chelsea largely hinge on the future of Diego Costa.

The Spaniard fell out with Conte in January amid a megabucks bid from China, and was dropped for their league win over Leicester City.

He returned to help steer the Blues to the title, but has been widely expected to leave the club this summer.

But the new season is just five weeks away, and talk has gone quiet of a Costa departure.

Atletico Madrid remain the most likely option for the temperamental striker, at 1/2 although their transfer ban means Costa wouldn’t be able to play for them until January.

It’s 2/1 he heads to China, while a move to AC Milan at 10/1 could also be on the cards, with the Italian outfit looking to make significant progress under new owners.
