You wait all summer for a mega deal and then it all happens in a matter of hours.

Just 24 hours ago Chelsea were the firm frontrunners for Romelu Lukaku, but they’ve been thoroughly gazumped by Manchester United.

That’s because it’s now widely believed the Red Devils have agreed a £75m deal with Everton to bring in the hotshot striker.

The move could be signed and sealed by Sunday, allowing Lukaku to join United’s pre-season tour to America.

It also means the Old Trafford outfit are highly likely to end their interest in Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

And it means Paul Pogba remains the world’s most expensive player, following his £89m arrival at Old Trafford 12 months ago.

As for Wayne Rooney, reports claim the deal is unconnected but it could still be the case that the England striker will head in the opposite direction.

Lukaku enjoyed his best season yet last term, firing in 25 Premier League goals.

It will be a huge relief to Man United fans, after the club made the somewhat surprising decision to not keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic for another season.

The Swede scored the majority of United’s goals last term, and concerns were growing that the club were struggling to fill the void.

But now they’ve signed a man with 85 Premier League goals in five seasons, they have certainly ticked that box.
