Everton’s Van Dijk odds cut from 50/1 to just 2/1 – Liverpool 6/4

Everton could be about to steal Virgil van Dijk from under Liverpool’s noses, according to the latest odds.

The Toffees were 50/1 to sign the Southampton defender a few weeks ago, but the bookies have slashed those odds to just 2/1 this morning.

Everton are about to pocket £75m from the imminent sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, and Van Dijk is set to be a prime target for Ronald Koeman.

Liverpool remain 6/4 favourites for the centre-half, but it’s now very much a Merseyside duel, with Chelsea best of the rest at 8s.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Everton have £75m to play with as Lukaku exits, and the Toffees look set to flex their muscle and wade in on Van Dijk, much to the chagrin of neighbours Liverpool.”

Everton have already spent big on their defence this summer, signing Michael Keane from Burnley for £24m, and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland for £30m.
