Liverpool set to unravel with possible Can & Coutinho exits?

Published:

This would be so Liverpool, wouldn’t it? Chasing targets all summer, only to miss out, then lose two of their most important players.

Rumours are doing the rounds in Italy and Spain that Emre Can is off to Juventus, and Philippe Coutinho is making his way to Barcelona.

There’s nothing hugely concrete in either report but there’s enough smoke there to start a particularly flammable anger amongst Reds fans.

A move for Virgil van Dijk still looks no closer to completion while RB Leipzig have rebuffed all bids for Naby Keïta.

It’s an all-too familiar feeling for supporters of the red half of Merseyside. Having watched long-term target Alexandre Lacazette sign for Arsenal, they have also had to swallow the failed pursuit of Dele Alli, who eventually ended up at Tottenham.

Both Can and Coutinho leaving in the one window would be huge blows for Jurgen Klopp. One would imagine he’ll be having none of it but stranger things have happened.

The rumours across the continent are that both players have agreed terms with Juve and Barca, and are now waiting for the clubs to come to an agreement regarding a fee.

Can only has one year remaining on his current deal so anywhere between £30-35m could get a deal over the line.

Coutinho is valued slightly higher by the Anfield hierachy with a reported bid of £72m already rejected.

Never mind reinforcements, Liverpool supporters might prefer to see the transfer window shut as quickly as possible.
