Premier League Countdown: Watford look for Silva’s Golden touch

Watford odds, Premier League odds,

The new Premier League season is inching ever nearer, so it’s time to start thinking about how the upcoming campaign will shake out.

In the build-up to the new season we’re profiling each of the 20 top-flight clubs, from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town.

And in this particular case we’re talking all things Watford…

The Hornets limped to a disappointing 17th place finish last season under beleaguered manager Walter Mazzarri, with the Italian reportedly having fallen out with star striker Troy Deeney.

However, the Hertfordshire side have cause to be slightly more optimistic this time around, though, following the appointment of former Hull City manager Marco Silva.

Silva almost led the seemingly doomed Tigers to Premier League survival last season and will bring a breath of fresh air to Vicarage Road.

His transfer business has been minimal but astute, signing youth to compliment experience in the shape of midfielders Nathaniel Chalobah and Will Hughes.

A less than impressive defensive unit still needs to be addressed however, with the 68 goals conceded last season – the league’s fourth highest tally – a serious worry for the home faithful.

Watford – 2017-18

Key arrivals: Nathaniel Chalobah, Will Hughes

Key departure: M’Baye Niang

Man to watch: Isaac Success

Title odds: 1000/1

Best bet: Watford to finish higher than Stoke City @ 2/1

We say: The Hornets have been relatively quiet in the transfer window and will be pinning their hopes on new manager Marco Silva producing the same sort of form that almost saw him achieve the great escape with Hull. If a youthful midfield can combine with star striker Troy Deeney, the Hertfordshire club could surprise one or two.
