Sunderland evens to sign Villa ace as they eye up Champ trio

Sunderland transfer news

Having taken over the helm at Sunderland this summer, new gaffer Simon Grayson is keen to put his own stamp on the Black Cats squad. And that could see the Wearside club weaken their rivals in the process – having lined up three targets from their Championship rivals.

The biggest name in the bunch is probably Aston Villa’s Ross McCormack, though fellow Villan Tommy Elphick and Brentford ace Ryan Woods have also been strongly linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

Scottish international McCormack has struggled to make his mark in the West Midlands since last summer’s move from Fulham, scoring just four times in 29 outings before being farmed out on loan.

Having also been omitted from Steve Bruce’s squad for the club’s pre-season tour, he looks set to leave the club, with Sunderland even-money favourites to sign him before the window closes.

If the 30-year-old does head to the North-East, there’s a good chance he’ll still be playing alongside Tommy Elphick.

The centre-back is 6/4 to join Sunderland this summer, having also failed to find his best form at Villa Park.

Elsewhere, classy Bees youngster is 2/1 to join Grayson’s ranks this summer, having impressed in West London last term, chalking up four assists from defensive midfield.

Right now there’s 9/2 on offer for the Black Cats to achieve an instant return to the Premier League. Secure this trio of signings, and those odds could quickly tumble.
