Wayne Rooney is shorter than he’s ever been to rejoin Everton this summer, according to the latest odds.

Amid continued speculation that his Manchester United career is over, Rooney looks closer than ever to an Old Trafford exit.

And a flurry of bets this morning has seen the bookies slash the odds on the forward returning to Goodison Park from 9/4 to just 1/5.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Punters have been piling in on a Rooney reunion at Goodison Park this summer.

“The odds have never been shorter and our traders will soon be closing the book if they continue to tumble.”

A move to the Chinese Super League is next in the betting of potential destinations for England and Manchester United’s record scorer at 5/2.

It’s 5/1 Rooney heads Stateside to MLS, with AC Milan leading the outsiders at 12/1.

Should he leave this summer, then Rooney will be calling time on a 13-year career at Old Trafford.

After joining from Everton to £25m in 2004, the striker has made 559 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring a record-breaking 253 times.
