Are Burnley set to splash the cash on Leeds United goal ace?

| 15.08.2017

Burnley could be about to break their transfer record with a move for Leeds United’s star striker Chris Wood.

The Clarets have cash to burn following the £18.5m sale of last season’s top scorer Andre Gray to Watford.

And it seems they’ve got their eyes set on Wood as a replacement.

The New Zealander finished up as the Championship’s top scorer last season after hitting 27 goals, four ahead of nearest challenger Tammy Abraham.

While Abraham has been given his Premier League chance, Wood remains with United in the Championship.

Burnley have recently emerged as favourites for his signature, that despite not even being in the running a month ago.

Now Clarets boss Sean Dyche has a sizeable transfer kitty and could be prepared to pay a significant fee to guarantee the New Zealander’s goals at Turf Moor this season.

We go 2/1 that Wood moves to the Lancashire club before the window shuts.

It could mean bad news for Swansea City who have lengthened to 10/1 from 5/2 earlier in the window.

Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion have come in to 6/1 from 7s last month.

Manager Tony Pulis could be tempted by the physicality of the striker in a move that would suit the Kiwi’s strengths.

Stoke City also remain interested and could lodge a bid to solve their own striking problems.

The Potters looked somewhat shot shy last weekend against Everton and at 12/1 it’s a tempting shout for the 25-year-old to move to Staffordshire.

Southampton also remain contenders at 14/1, while a move to fellow Championship club Middlesbrough is available at 20/1.

West Brom – 6/1

Swansea City – 10/1
