They’ve already gone to battle over Romelu Lukaku this summer, but now Everton and Chelsea appear destined for another transfer tug-of-war.

This time, however, it’s over Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente.

The Spaniard has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium all summer and it’s Chelsea who remain 10/11 favourites to land the 32-year-old.

Blues manager Antonio Conte worked with Llorente at Juventus but has yet been unable to get a deal over the line.

And that has put Everton on alert.

The Toffees are now an enticing 6/1 to sign the striker before the close of Thursday’s window.

Given that they still lack a proper number nine following the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United for £75m, Llorente could prove to be a canny replacement.

His record in front of goal is certainly not to be scoffed at.

In 33 appearances for the Swans last season Llorente bagged 15 goals, continuing fine form from previous stints with Sevilla and Juventus.

With over £130m already having been spent by manager Ronald Koeman on new players this summer, money is no longer an issue at Goodison Park.

And with Llorente rumoured to be available for around £15m, a move is definitely on the cards.
