It didn’t take long, Lukaku ousts Kane as Golden Boot favourite

Published:

Romelu Lukaku has usurped Harry Kane as the favourite to win this season’s Premier League Golden Boot.

The Belgian enjoyed a dream start on his league debut for Manchester United, netting twice in the 4-0 rout of West Ham United.

And his link-up play with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial has forced our traders to act.

From 4/1 in pre-season, the former Everton man how heads the market at 5/2 to win the accolade for the first time.

Lukaku is already 2-0 up against Harry Kane, who failed to get off the mark for Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

The England international already boasts a pair of Golden Boots, and went into this campaign as market leader.

But just one week in, it appears Kane is on the back foot, and his odds have drifted a touch from 3/1 to 7/2.

That said, he didn’t score in any of his first three games last season, yet ended the campaign with a whopping 29 goals.

Like Lukaku, Sergio Aguero is on the board for the new campaign. The Manchester City ace bagged the opener in their win over Premier League newboys Brighton & Hove Albion.

But the Argentine hotshot can’t shift Lukaku or Kane, remaining third favourite, albeit at a slightly trimmed 9/2, from 5/1.

Those trio lead the way, despite Alexandre Lacazette’s immediate impact at Arsenal.

The Frenchman needed just two minutes to open his account for the Gunners last week, but it hasn’t been enough to slash his odds, in slightly from 10/1 to 9s.

It’s a similar story for Chelsea’s record signing, Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard also netted on his league bow for his new club at the weekend, but his odds have mirrored Lacazette’s, into 9/1 from 10s.

Aguero’s team-mate Gabriel Jesus has gone the other way, out to 10/1 from 9s, though it doesn’t look good for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez, with the Chilean’s odds drifting to 20s from 12/1.

Jamie Vardy backers will be happy though. The Leicester City ace flew out of the blocks with a brace versus Arsenal, and his odds have been chopped accordingly into 20/1 from 33/1.
