Ladbrokes News Acca: Southampton, Leeds and Blackburn head our five-fold

The Football League is up and running, and now the Premier League joins in the fun too this weekend.

So with a full fixture list to savor at long last, we’re kick-starting our Ladbrokes News Accas, where each week each member of the team will pick one W-D-W selection from Saturday’s 15:00 games from the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two.

Granted there’s some trepidation to be had in these early weeks, but we aren’t afraid of a challenge.

Here’s our opening five-fold of the season…

Richard Marsh

Blackburn to beat Doncaster

Opening with a loss at Southend United won’t have been in the script for League One favourites Blackburn Rovers.

Two straight defeats would be unacceptable, so I’m backing Tony Mowbray’s Rovers to make amends against Doncaster.

Dave Burin

Leeds to beat Preston

The Whites beat PNE 3-0 and 4-1 respectively last term, meaning they’ve now won five of the last six meetings between the pair.

Having started the league campaign with an away win at Bolton Wanderers, they’ve hit the ground running. Expect another comfortable Leeds victory in this clash.

Cian Carroll

Cardiff & Aston Villa – Draw

Neil Warnock and Steve Bruce go head-to-head here, and both clubs will be desperate not to lose.

Cardiff are generally quite stubborn at home, while Villa have a poor away record. A point-a-piece looks nailed on.

Nick Murphy

Colchester to beat Stevenage

While there may not be a lot of early season form to go on, the head-to-head results between these two suggest only one result.

The U’s have won their last six in a row against Stevenage and have scored 3+ goals on four occasions. It’s a no-brainer that the hosts will get off the mark this weekend.

Daniel Anwar

Southampton to beat Swansea

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente were instrumental to Swansea’s survival last season, but neither will feature against Southampton.

That means the Saints should be too strong for them, even without Virgil van Dijk. Expect them to kick off Mauricio Pellegrino’s tenure with a home win.

So, there you have it. Our five-fold acca comes in at 45/1!

If you fancy it, you can back it right here.
