Manchester United ace 2/1 to sign for Roma this summer
Published:
Juan Mata could be set for a surprise summer move to AS Roma if reports are to be believed.
The Italian giants have been chasing Leicester City wantaway Riyad Mahrez throughout the transfer window.
But if a move for the Algerian falls through the Stadio Olimpico side could turn to the 29-year-old Mata.
Our traders reckon the move has some legs and have priced the Spaniard up at 2/1 to head to the Italian capital.
The diminutive number ten played a major role in United’s success last season and manager Jose Mourinho is reluctant to let the ex-Chelsea man go.
Mata and Mourinho didn’t see eye to eye at Stamford Bridge, but the pair have combined well up in Manchester.
In 43 appearances for the Reds last season the playmaker hit 10 goals and provided six assists, as the Glazer owned club claimed an EFL Cup and Europa League double.
One factor that could push through the move is United’s summer spending.
The Old Trafford club have laid out over £135m already this summer on Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof.
And with Ivan Perisic also on Mourinho’s radar, Chief Executive Ed Woodward may offset those sales by flogging Mata for a premium price.
With Foxes star Mahrez increasingly unlikely to move away from the King Power, a move for Mata looks ever more likely.
