NFL one month Klaxon: Patriots 4/1 for Super Bowl glory; trio 10/1

We’re just a month away from the NFL’s return, and while the pre-season fixtures will give us a better idea of who’ll be hitting the ground running, the Super Bowl odds make for interesting reading right now.

Current holders New England Patriots are firm favourites at 4/1, having reigned supreme in two of the last five years – with five titles since the turn of the Millenium.

Having added defensive steel with the likes of cornerback Stephon Gilmore (from Buffalo Bills) and Lawrence Guy (Baltimore Ravens), they’ll be an even tougher nut to crack. But a trio of 10/1 shots will be trying to do just that.

Dallas Cowboys are one of those sides, and while it might be a surprise to see them at 10s having failed to reach a Super Bowl since 1996, their 11-game winning streak in the regular season last time out will have fans dreaming.

They eventually came unstuck against Green Bay Packers in the pair’s Divisional Playoff game. Mike McCarthy’s men are also 10/1 shots, and have added a talented Super Bowl winner in the off-season in the shape of former Pats ace Martellus Bennett.

Seattle Seahawks round out the trio at that price. Pete Carroll has hugely revamped his squad since 2016, so they’re still something of an unknown quantity – but few know how to build a winning mentality like the 65-year-old Head Coach.

Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers follow at 12/1 apiece. The Georgia franchise came so close to lifting the Super Bowl last season, before a heartbreaking defeat to the Patriots in Houston.

Having been so near last season, they could prove a popular bet. Meanwhile, the Steelers will have to fix a less-than-stellar record on the road to justify their price.

Oakland Raiders were genuine challengers last term before an injury to QB Derek Carr in Game 16 saw their hopes collapse. The Bay Area side are 16/1 to mend that heartbreak with a Super Bowl triumph in 2017.

They’re followed by Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs at 20/1, with the Broncos looking to recover from an embarrassing collapse last season which saw the Colorado outfit miss out on the Playoffs.
