Potential Manchester United targets: The wing wizards

Published:

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has dropped a pretty big hint that they are far from finished in the transfer market.

In today’s pre-match press conference the Portuguese boss stated that he’d like another player “from the wings”.

Now, whether he means a full back or a winger is up for debate but he did say during the club’s tour that he wanted a new attacking option in.

Putting two and two together, we’ve decided to create a small shopping list of wingers that would potentially star for the Red Devils.

Felipe Anderson

The Lazio winger has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and now would be the perfect time to make that switch.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has starred in Serie A for the last couple of seasons, and although he’s signed a new contract with the Bianconeri, would cost a relatively cheap £20-30m.

Dries Mertens

We’re going back to Serie A for another option here. Dries Mertens has been in sensational form for Napoli for the last 18 months or so.

The Belgian international has scored 50 goals in 132 appearances for the Naples giants and bagged 33 assists in those games, too.

Another player who’s signed a new contract until 2020, Mertens would again cost in the region of £30m.

Jonathan Viera

The Las Palmas winger wowed La Liga last season under Quique Setien. The 27-year-old hometown boy has scored 27 goals in 112 appearances for the club, with another 26 assists to his name.

A wide forward who can play across the line, but is most comfortable coming from the left.

Having been already linked to Swansea City, a move to Manchester United would be impossible to turn down. Plus he’d cost a pittance of around £10m.

Gareth Bale

The premium-level signing – say no more.
