PSV’s midfield ace emerges as target for Brighton

Davy Propper

There’s less than a week to go until they make their Premier League debut, but Brighton & Hove Albion are still very much active in the transfer market.

That’s according to numerous reports which claim the Seagulls are closing in on a deal for PSV Eindhoven’s Davy Propper.

It’s believed the midfielder could become Brighton’s record signing at £6m, and there’s plenty to be excited about.

The 25-year-old has become one of the Eredivisie’s top performers, especially during two sterling seasons with PSV.

Making 87 appearances for the Dutch heavyweights since joining in 2015, Propper has netted 22 goals in addition to 20 assists from his central role.

In doing so, he helped his side land the 2015-16 Eredivisie title on a dramatic final day.

And his performances in the Netherlands haven’t gone unnoticed, with Propper making five appearances for the national side since 2015.

He’ll bring continental experience to the South Coast too, having missed just six minutes of PSV’s last two Champions League campaigns.

In that time he’s gone toe-to-toe against some of the best in Europe, including Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.

Brighton have already made eight signings since gaining promotion into the top-tier, but Propper would arguably be the pick of the bunch.

The Dutchman began his career with Vitesse Arnhem, making over 160 appearances during six years with his local side, before joining PSV for £3.8m in 2015.

Brighton will commence their Premier League campaign by hosting Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday evening.
