West Brom planning new bid for Boro defender

West Bromwich Albion are set to make a third bid for Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson, according to reports.

West Brom have already had two bids turned down for the 24-year-old, with the latest understood to have been worth £20 million.

Middlesbrough believe keeping Gibson improves their chances of returning to the Premier League straight away, but the Baggies hope an improved bid will convince them to sell.

Our traders have priced Gibson at 2/1 to be lining up at The Hawthorns next term.

The Boro captain impressed despite the club’s relegation last term – they kept 11 clean sheets but didn’t score enough goals.

West Brom conceded 51 goals in league action last season – the lowest total of any club that finished below eighth – but Gareth McAuley is now 37 and Gibson could be a fixture in the heart of defence for years to come.

Albion have already signed three players this summer and assistant manager Gary Megson has said the club could bring in up to five new faces before kicking off against Bournemouth on Saturday.
