Here’s what we’re excited about for the new Golf season

The PGA season is well underway, and this week it is joined by the new European Tour campaign at the Hong Kong Open.
So it’s safe to say that Golf is up and running once again.
The Ladbrokes News crew are ready to roll for another thrilling year on the fairways and greens.
Here’s what we’re excited about for the new season…
The return of Rory
Rory McIlroy will want to quickly forget about 2017. The Northern Irishman’s year was riddled with injuries, and he never felt near his best.
That didn’t stop him finishing T7 at the Masters or T4 at The Open. A trio of top-seven finishes in the WGC Events also helped ease his struggles.
But McIlroy is taking some proper time out now in order to be on it in 2018. He’s nearing on four years without a Major win, and you can be sure he will be desperate to fix that.
A rejuvenated Poulter
Ian Poulter almost lost his Tour card last year. But the Englishman rallied with a T2 at the PLAYERS Championship and a third at the Canadian Open.
Now on the comeback trail and looking to move into the top 50 in the rankings, a rejuvenated Poulter is something every Golf fan will be hoping to see in 2018.
And you can bet the 41-year-old will give it everything – there’s a Ryder Cup spot up for grabs don’t forget.
The Ryder Cup
Speaking of the famous cross-Atlantic tournament, next year culminates in the 42nd Ryder Cup.
Europe will be out for revenge in France, having been beaten 11-17 by the Americans at Hazeltine last year.
But the thing about the Ryder Cup is that it brings out the best in everyone. The players will be all out to bag a spot in the European or American teams, and we’ll see the impact of that in the months to come.
More magic from Sergio
Sergio Garcia will never forget 2017. The Spaniard finally won a Major with a thrilling play-off victory over Justin Rose at Augusta.
It was long overdue after 22 top-ten finishes in Majors, and now Garcia can go into 2018 with the monkey firmly off his back.
His form tailed off a touch after the win in Georgia, but we can expect more magic from Sergio on the big stages.
New names in the frame
A new wave of Golf stars emerged last season, and now they’re hoping to really mix it with the established names.
Tommy Fleetwood won the race to Dubai, while Jon Rahm is surely a Major winner in-waiting.
Then there’s Tyrell Hatton who won twice on the European Tour last season. South African Branden Grace is another threatening to make that step up next year.
Expect big things from these guys in the very near future.
