Is Bilbao star the man to replace Petr Cech at Arsenal?

With Petr Cech now very much in the autumn of his career, Arsenal must think carefully about who they choose to succeed the Premier League legend between the sticks.

And according to the latest reports in the press, the Gunners have targeted Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The 23-year-old has made the number one spot his own at the Basque side, and made his international debut for Spain last weekend.

And the icing on the cake for Arsenal is that Arrizabalaga’s contract expires in the summer.

That leaves Bilbao in a delicate position, and it’s believed they may wish to cash in their star keeper in January.

Should that be the case, Arsenal could get their man for £20m.

And funding the move shouldn’t prove a problem if one or both of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil choose to move on.

But as ever, things might not be straightforward.

It’s also understood that Real Madrid are eager to land Arrizabalaga too.

Many believe that the La Liga kingpins are desperate to find a top-level replacement for Keylor Navas.

Real almost signed David de Gea from Manchester United in 2015, but haven’t come close to signing the Spaniard since. Now they may have turned their attentions elsewhere.
