Van Dijk to Liverpool is back on the cards after huge development

It was the ‘will they, won’t they?’ story of the summer. But in the end, Virgil van Dijk’s dream of joining Liverpool was scuppered by Southampton’s refusal to sell. However, the latest developments suggest a move to Anfield could be back on.

When asked about the topic, current Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino cryptically told media “everybody has their price”. And that’s believed to be the green light Jurgen Klopp has been waiting for, with a January swoop now looking likely.

Saints have conceded just six times in as many games with the Dutchman back in the side, including clean sheets against West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace.

However, with the South Coast club languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League, a January move to Merseyside is likely to still be on the player’s post-Christmas wish list.

As for the Reds, their defensive issues haven’t improved this season. Klopp’s men have shipped more goals than any other side in the top eight. So there’s every chance the German gaffer will still be willing to spend big on the former Celtic ace.

Next up for the current Liverpool crop is a home game against…you guessed it, Southampton!

The hosts are 2/5 for victory at Anfield, while there’s 10/1 on offer for Van Dijk to find the net against his prospective suitors.
