Winks set for World Cup call-up ahead of Wilshere

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks looks set to be included in England’s World Cup squad ahead of Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.

Gareth Southgate has named Winks in his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil. But there’s no place for Wilshere, who’s yet to start a league game this season.

Our traders think Southgate could make the same call ahead of next year’s tournament in Russia.

Winks is odds-on at 7/10 to be in the squad. Wilshere faces an uphill battle to be included at 17/10.

Both of them are technically-gifted midfielders who can dictate play, which means they could be competing for a single spot.

It’s 15/4 for both of them to be amongst the 23. And 12/5 for neither of them to be involved.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “As far as our traders are concerned it’s Winks who is winning the race for a place on England’s plane to Russia – and it’s Wilshere who could miss out as a result.”
