January is nearly here and the mid-season transfer window is almost open.

It has its critics, but the window allows clubs and players to make vital changes.

The Ladbrokes News team are profiling all 20 Premier League clubs. Here it’s Arsenal’s turn to go under the spotlight…

What they need

Up front, the Gunners’ limited creativity up front is starting to cost them.

They need fresh ideas and more quality. A new centre-half would be good too.

Arsenal crumble whenever Laurent Koscielny is absent.

Who they’re targeting

Arsenal have been linked with plenty of names. Riyad Mahrez has been playing well of late and could again be a potential option.

Another could be Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian has disappeared from the fold at Manchester United, but his talents would suit the Gunners to a tee.

As for a defender, Jonny Evans could be the ideal signing.

Who they might lose

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. The pair are both out of contract in the summer, and Sanchez in particular is unlikely to stick around.

A chunky January offer could tempt Arsenal to sell and cash in rather than let them go for nothing.

Final thought

There could be more departures than arrivals at the Emirates in January.

Both Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott need to get more game-time if they want to make their respective World Cup squads.
